University Grants Commission Act, 2050, as amended in Shrawan 2082 by an Act amending some Nepal Acts. The amendment made setting the equivalence of foreign degrees one of UGC's functions.

From 1 Shrawan 2083 (mid-July 2026), apply to the University Grants Commission. Tribhuvan University's Curriculum Development Centre (पाठ्यक्रम विकास केन्द्र) no longer accepts equivalence applications.

Check UGC's notices for the application procedure, documents and fee. None were found in the sources reviewed.

For school-level qualifications (Grade 10–12), contact the National Examinations Board. Its equivalence process was not checked in this research.

For government jobs, note that under current practice graduates of other Nepali universities may still be asked for a Tribhuvan University equivalence.

Important notes

In July 2026 UGC had been without a chair and a member-secretary for three months (Kantipur), so expect possible delays.
You need an equivalence certificate for a study-abroad NOC if your earlier study was abroad or outside NEB (third-party guide).
New office_id 'ugc' was created because none of the listed ids fits.
