Step-by-step process

Check that your passport has at least 3 months' validity, and that your visa and your contract with the same employer are valid.

Pay into the Social Security Fund and keep the receipt.

Pay the Foreign Employment Welfare Fund contribution and buy life insurance for the new period.

Apply for re-entry approval online in DoFE's FEIMS system.

If you meet all the conditions (same country, same employer), FEIMS approves the permit automatically without staff review. This applies from 18 Jestha 2083 (1 June 2026).

Important notes

Automatic approval covers only the same destination country and the same employer. If you are changing employer or country, check with DoFE; you will likely need a new labour permit.
Re-entry permits have been issued online since 2020–2022. At least 20,000 workers apply each month (DoFE, via Kantipur).
Renewing a permit also requires enrolment in the Social Security Fund (Kantipur, Dec 2025).
