Step-by-step process
- 1
Go to the ward office or the municipality's revenue section (Lalitpur Metropolitan City has service pages for property-tax assessment).

- 3
In Kathmandu Metropolitan City the tax is charged on the total valuation in progressive slabs (see fees).
- 4
Pay by the deadline; in Kathmandu Metropolitan City, paying by the end of Ashoj 2083 earns a 10% discount.
- 5
Keep the receipt — it is needed for land registration, building permits and ward recommendations.

Schedule 1 of KMC Finance Bill/Act 2083, decoded from a legacy-font (Preeti) PDF. The schedule's own per-band and cumulative amounts match these rates exactly. KMC posted this text as the Finance Bill 2083 (in its Acts list, 1 Shrawan 2083); news says the Finance Act took effect from 1 Shrawan, but changes made on passage are unknown — confirm with KMC before relying on it.

Important notes
- Worked example (inference from the KMC slabs): a property valued at Rs 1.5 crore pays Rs 1,000 + 0.015% of Rs 50 lakh = Rs 1,750, or Rs 1,575 with the 10% early-payment discount.
- KMC's Finance Bill/Act 2083 also has schedules for building valuation and depreciation and a land-value list by road/area (about 96 entries); their figures could not be read reliably from the legacy-font PDF — ask the ward how your valuation was set.
- KMC also made some recommendation fees free in FY 2083/84.
- Lalitpur Metropolitan City lists property-tax assessment and valuation (सम्पत्ति कर निर्धारण / मूल्याङ्कन) as service pages; their documents and rates were not read.
- Step order is indicative: no current citizen charter for this service could be retrieved — confirm at the office.
